The Things I Wouldn’t Travel Without!
I have five absolutely must things – my travel essentials – that I always take with me. I find these on the road items the secret of my smooth travelling. Maybe you get some new acquaintances – or do you already have the solid set of yours?
1. Bose QuietComfort Headphones
It’s more like a rule than an exception that there is always a baby crying in the airplane (100% chance on the Ryan Air flights). I’m sorry to say but I don’t have long temper enough to deal with that. Yes yes it’s natural and babies are cute – but against the Babies Cry there are Boses! Noise cancelling headphones. They also mute the entire hum and hubbub there is in the plane – and somehow for me this silence also makes a safe feeling. I don’t necessarily listen to music, I might just enjoy the peace, sleep or read. The best invention on board!
2. Cabeau Evolution Pillow
This is the second best invention on board! It doesn’t matter whether you are travelling by airplane, bus or sitting on the passenger seat Cabeau’s evolution pillow is the most comfortable travel pillow I know. It costs a bit more, around 35 euros, but you can wash the cover textile and it stays good ages. It’s a foam pillow that takes shape according to your head posture. It supports your brain holders and you sleep like a baby – and no crying.
3. L’occitane Shea Hand Cream and Carmex Sun Protective Lip Balm
I don’t get it how the stewardess can take it, drought and wind from the day to another. Well seemingly they buy a lot of tax-free products. My one and only is L’occitane mini tube (30ml) of the delicious shea butter. Smells so good. No matter how scrappy and well travelled you look, when putting that on hands, you feel tidy and luxurious (there are male versions too). In an emergency works also for other parts of the human body. But what I also have to carry everywhere, as long as the sun still exists, is the protective lip balm. My lips burn easily and I don’t wanna have a diagnosis for the lip cancer! That’s one more ridiculous cancer.
4. Motion Sickness Pills in Marimekko Box
Just lately I got this cute Marimekko tin box from a dear friend of mine. It’s a perfect stash to hide my motion sickness pills. I guess I have some problems with my inner ear and sometimes even in the bus I might start feeling sick. But not anymore, not with these drugs. The worst were the sailing boats – but now I have the safe haven and a polar bear as my bodyguard – he’s name is Nanuk. Finnish Marimekko also reminds me of homeland, a piece of home is always with me.
5. Tiny Notebook
Sometimes travelling gets boring. No not the travelling but the exact passaging, while en route. That’s good time to take a notebook and start writing down the nice things that you have encountered and want to share to the world and to next generations – to those annoying, crying babies. Stories give meaning to this world. I love stories.
