Whattawowmemory: High Five with the Higher Power in Senja!
I have never felt such close connection with the creator of this world as I did this summer in Senja.
It had been a very long day of strolling around and wondering the amazing places of Norway. First in Andenes, and after a ferry trip in beautiful Senja. My travel mentality is freedom, and when I’m on the road trip, I just go and explore. You always find a place to sleep. So even we came to Senja around seven in the evening we just started driving around the island without a destination. It felt like a true adventure. We drove along, were listening to beautiful music in the beautiful hours of the evening light. We always stopped when we felt like that. Scandinavian summer makes it possible to wonder the world even late because it’s light and magical.
There was one specific huge mountain that attracted all the sunlight. It looked so beautiful. “A powerful green Hulk basking in the orange light.” My photographer Antti found a secret path and we walked on. There opened amazing view of this wonder.
That wasn’t it. Finally after the Hulk experience, it was already midnight. We decided to stop somewhere overnight. Didn’t feel like for tent tonight. We drove to village of Senjahopen, and the fortune was good to us, there was a girl just closing the inn. We made it. At that point I was so tired that I almost left inside when the sunset seeker Antti told me he was still going to chase the midnight sunset. Oh, the midsummer sun so is so special – it just dips, and it comes up.
Thanks god I braced myself for it and joined Antti. It was only us, the whole village and world seemed empty. We had to work for it, to see the sunset, because it was hiding behind some great sized natural stones. We climbed over and after all the obstacles the sky opened in front of us and the woooooooooooooooow experience started.
It was a perfect sunset I have ever seen. It confirmed the feeling of a higher power behind our existence – that some daddy cool, “god” – created the elements of the Universe and made the kaboom. Like he was painting there now. Feeling very harmonic, keeping calm.
The colours were amazing. Yellows, oranges, pinks, purples and blues. I was catching my breath. The clouds were coloured and then there became a shape. Totally outstanding shape of a hand. God’s hand, I thought. Then I lifted my hand up and did a high five and said “Thanks God.” And then I was speechless.
Whattawowmemory is a recurring set of articles, where I’m capturing the most memorable moments and the strongest feelings that I have felt on the road. I also attach a special song that will always remind me of that moment.
